I really tried to love Subaru and become a lifelong buyer of their cars. My 2008 legacy provided great highway traction, great highway mpg 30+ and low maintenance costs. The negatives started at 85,000 miles, head gasket leak, faulty end links caused very loud rattling noises, power steering pump wine, heat shield rattling on start, door panel rattling, dashboard rattling. The problems started in June 2014 and in September I gave up on the car after realizing I was leaking the dreaded Subaru head gasket. The car also became a rattle inside after about 80,000 miles, which surprised me. I planned to drive the car to more than 100,000 kilometers. The city mpg was also below average 17-19 mpg.

Well-founded decision

I rated the performance a 3 simply because there are better performing choices in a sedan. I wanted an AWD vehicle but I was also looking for an upgrade in mpg from my previous f150 4x4. My research had led me to the Subaru Legacy I had never driven or even sat in one. This car gives the best bang for your buck if you buy it lightly used. I have a 29,000 mile limited model for 16,995. Anyone who gets into the car can't believe the features I got for the price tag. I've done a lot of research and nothing else compares. I wish the mpg was a bit better, but I can live with all the features I get instead. The driving pleasure factor is great despite the small engine.

Nice car

I bought my Subaru Legacy about 3 months ago and I must say it is a very good car for the price. It is the 4 cylinder Special Edition version. It has enough power to merge and pass on the highway. It handles excellently at high speeds. I can only imagine what the GT version looks like with this much performance. I get 25 mpg and that's 90% city driving. Highway I can get about 30 mpg. I push it a lot since I'm a student and like to accelerate. AWD is great in the rain, can't wait for winter to really test it again. In short: a great car and I would recommend it to anyone. Good quality all around.

2007 Subaru Legacy

"Almost 10 years my baby!!"

this was my very first car. I bought it second hand and had just over 55,000 miles on it and almost 10 years later it now has just over 240,000 miles. Even though this car is low to the ground, it was AMAZING in the winter (only "stuck" three times in the years I've had it), I've never had to put snow tires on it, but I can only imagine how Well, the achievement would have been if I had. The power steering pump had to be replaced at about 180K and the blower motor failed at about 125K, but other than those two things, it has never had any major mechanical problems. The sound system was absolutely AMAZING and it was STOCK - I never upgraded it, I didn't see the need to. But now my head gasket goes bad and I'm looking for a new vehicle - preferably an SUV. I just want more ground clearance than what a car can offer me. I'm going to miss this car, but sheesh! I've had him since my senior year of high school and almost into my late twenties, soooo. It did me good!!

"Don't buy if it's driven a lot of miles"

I've had this car for a little over a year and it was my first car. It is a very comfortable car, which turns very nicely and also looks sharp. Also in the snow this car is an absolute BEAST. I've driven other Subarus and there's no comparison to how this car handles in tough conditions. In the past year, however, he's had more problems than I can count. If you've ever seen the movie "The Money Pit," this is the car version. I installed new CV axles, an exhaust, power steering belt, battery, brakes and repaired the air conditioning. It still needs a head gasket, new power steering pump, timing belt, water pump and transmission lines. It's such a shame because I see so many on the road, and it's a beautiful car. If you are thinking of buying one I would suggest buying a throwback with less mileage because when you drive close to 200,000 miles every part of the whole car tends to deteriorate. 2007 Subaru Legacy

"Another great Subaru"

This is my second Subaru (the first was a 2003 Outback 5/5 for another incredibly reliable car). This car is great on any terrain, I live in New England and can drive right through any snow thrown at us. Great gas mileage, super reliable engine, I have the 4 cylinder 2.5i. I do all my own work as I am a mechanic and the parts are very reasonably priced and easy to install. If you keep up with these vehicles, i.e. Subarus in general, they will hold their value and last a very long time (these engines have no problem reaching 300k+ if maintained properly. I highly recommend these vehicles to anyone, I prefer the station wagon/outback style and they are great as a family car with plenty of room the AWD (All Wheel Drive) systems are the best made in my opinion my last car was a Subaru my current car is a Subaru and when we get our next car you guessed it a Subaru Always do your research when looking for a used vehicle if you find a used Subaru that has been well cared for and well maintained you have a gem good luck!!Read less
